Microsoft has been steadily grouping the Xbox brand and Windows 10 together with a renewed focus on gaming. Back in January, streaming functionality between Xbox and PC was added which allowed you to play Xbox One games on multiple devices. The main caveat is you still had to own an Xbox One console which made this move pointless to a number of PC Gamers. While the streaming software has tons of potential, the video quality is quite average and based on a compressed video stream.
- Getting started with Remote Play on PC or Mac. Using the PS Remote Play app, you can control your PlayStation®5 console or PlayStation®4 console from a PC or Mac connected to a high-speed network. Check your PC or Mac meets the requirements and then follow the steps below to set up Remote Play.
- Mar 27, 2021 Pre-2016 Xbox One Wireless Controller and Wired Xbox Controllers. Xbox One wireless controllers that came out before 2016 aren’t Bluetooth compatible. Therefore, although they’re wireless, they can’t be paired with a Mac the way the above controllers can. You can still connect them though, just with a few extra steps.
- To enable PS4 Remote Play Xbox controller support, open the app, plug in the gamepad, then add a new config file; If you just want to emulate PS4 controller for Remote Play and use the default layout without any modifications, pick the Controller sub-config, press the magic wand icon below the controller image, and pick Virtual DS4.
- “If you always wanted to play Xbox One games on your Mac when someone else is using your TV, this is definitely easier than installing Windows 10 on your Mac.” GottaBe Mobile “The setup is simple and it works very well.
Thanks to Reddit user, OomaThurman (Fantastic name), there is a manual fix to increase the streaming quality and reach speeds of 20mbps. This provides a clearer, sharper image and while not groundbreaking, is a very noticeable difference. To alter the video feed quality from High to Very High, please follow these instructions:
Play games from your console straight to your phone over the internet.-Get notifications for new game invites, party chat messages and more.Requires supported phones or tablets (mobile data charges may apply) and supported Bluetooth controller, with supported games. Xbox One or Xbox Series X must be turned on or in Instant-On mode.
Locate the Xbox App folder and open “userconsoledata” with a text editor such as Notepad++. This folder should be placed in C:Users%USERNAME%AppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.XboxApp_~~~~~~LocalState. If you cannot access the folder, ensure “Show hidden files and folders” is checked in Windows’ folder options. Now, press Control and F, and type “IsInternalPreview”. Once you have found this entry, change the flag to “true”; there may be multiple entries which need changing.
Next, you should be able to select the Very High preset and stream to your PC in maximum quality. Redditer, Chickern provided two images showing World of Tanks in action and compared High with Very High. The top image shows the High preset while the bottom is a Very High stream, or is it? I’ll let you decide! Our editor Peter tested it out too and reported a leap from 720p stream to 1080p@60fps in Forza 5.

Can I Play Xbox On Mac
In the recent 3.50 update for the PlayStation 4, one of the most notable features is the ability for PC and Mac users to use Remote Play.
This finally means you can stream your PS4 to any Windows 8.1/10 PC or OS X Yosemite/El Capitan device, even if you are across the other side of the world. But actually getting this to work can be kind of confusing. So we're here to help you figure out just how to get PS4 remote play to work with PC or Mac.
Once it's all set up correctly, everything will run as smoothly as this:
But first, you need to know if you can run it
While it doesn't take a powerful system to be able to run Remote Play, just make sure you can -- you probably can.
You will need any MicroUSB cable (one came with your PS4), and a free USB port too.

Setting up your PS4
First make sure you have installed the latest update. If you have automatic updates set, you are fine.
Enable Remote Play
- Go to 'Settings'.
- Find 'Remote Play Connection Settings'
- When there, put a tick in the box for 'Enable Remote Play'.
Set your PS4 as your primary system
- Go to 'Settings'.
- Find 'PlayStation Network/Account Management'.
- Then find 'Activate as your Primary PS4'.
- Make sure you then select 'Activate.'
If your PS4 is already your primary system, 'Activate' will be greyed out.
Optional: To start your PS4 with Remote Play
You need to have already setup your PS4 to use Rest Mode for this.
- Go to 'Settings'.
- Find 'Power Saving Settings'.
- In there find 'Set Features Available in Rest Mode
- Tick the boxes for 'Stay Connected to the Internet' and 'Enable Turning On of PS4 from Network'.

Installing Remote Play
- Click on either Windows or Mac, depending which system you have, and download the file anywhere on your system.
- Run the installer.
- Click 'Next' or 'Continue' a bit, making sure you read everything.

Using Remote Play
Remote Play Xbox One Anywhere
I recommend being on the same network and having your PS4 already on for this -- so be at home next to your PS4.

- Ensure your PS4 is on.
- Launch the PS4 Remote Play program.
- When prompted, connect your DualShock controller via USB.
- Here you can either find 'Settings' at the bottom left of the program (in Windows, for Mac users go to 'Preferences'), or select 'Start' at the bottom right.

If the program fails to find your PS4, which is unlikely, you should have an 8 digit code appear on your screen. Ensure you are on the same network as your PS4, and follow the instructions.
You are all ready to rock!
Have a tinker with the Remote Play program settings -- there are quite a few options you can play around with. Unfortunately, there is no 1080p resolution setting like there is with the Xbox One streaming, but Remote Play allows you to use your console from outside of the local network, so hopefully this will be updated in the future. Also, you cannot use Remote Play if your controller isn't connected to your computer.
Hopefully everything went smoothly, and you are now able to use Remote Play. If anything has gone wrong, let me know and I will do my best to help!
